Frequently Asked Questions

What about other competing technologies?

Innovations have made Fresh ProTech® and Fresh ProTech® Plus the new technical leaders in Modified Atmosphere Packaging for pallets of perishable products. The standard bag system utilizes older technology with time-based controllers that inject an approximate amount of CO2 and do not measure what is injected into each pallet. This method is generally effective, but is not as accurate as an active controller that uses sensors to take readings as the gas is administered, the way the Fresh ProTech® controllers do.

Alternative pallet bag offerings without an actual sealed pallet enclosure (bags that are open at the bottom) do not create a viable modified atmosphere, which is required to effectively protect perishable products. Other competitors offer passive modified atmosphere bags that are essentially sealed bags that allow the product to produce its own CO2 without introducing an additional gas mix. These bags may eventually develop an atmosphere, but for most products, this happens too slowly at proper distribution temperatures to be of commercial value.
